Project themes
PEAT-GENIE’s work is organised around six connected themes that together support the development, testing and adoption of the project platform.
1. Data integration and pre-processing
PEAT-GENIE prepares multi-source data by leveraging robust preprocessing and quality assessment methods to ensure that downstream tasks such as modelling, simulation, and policy evaluation, are based on reliable, harmonized, and AI-ready datasets.
2. AI models for prediction and change detection
PEAT-GENIE develops cutting-edge AI-based methods to generate high-resolution data-driven modelling for four DTs at the backend of the PEAT-GENIE platform.
3. Generative AI for scenario exploration and decision support
PEAT-GENIE designs and implements GenAI-driven solutions within the middleware of the PEAT-GENIE platform, with a particular focus on LLMs, to enable scenario exploration and decision support within PEAT-GENIE. The emphasis is on non-technical users, aiming to democratize access to information and advanced geoprocessing tools through intuitive interfaces based on natural language interaction, with support for multilingual capabilities (EN, FI, DA, ET).
4. Platform development
PEAT-GENIE creates a user interface and integration with the DestinE. The design of the frontend will be made to enable easy scenario-based simulation and what-if analysis leveraging the GenAI.
5. Validation and case-studies
The platform will be tested at peatland sites in Denmark, Estonia, Finland and Ireland to ensure its relevance, usability and performance in real-world conditions.
6. User-centred design and engagement
End users will play an active role in the design, development and evaluation of the PEAT-GENIE platform. Through continuous collaboration, the project will ensure that the platform is relevant, intuitive and aligned with real-world decision-making needs.
7. Knowledge sharing and long-term impact
PEAT-GENIE will share its results with open datasets, tools, publications, training materials and policy briefs, while supporting the long-term use of project outcomes through collaboration with European networks and infrastructures.
